BSIT200-T301 Week 3 Blog - CPUs
Hey There! Welcome again this week as we talk about what influences our CPU's performance. First let's start with, what is a CPU and what does it do? The CPU, often called the "Brains" of a computer, is a crucial component responsible for executing instructions and performing calculations that are required to run software applications. It interprets commands from programs and processes data, changing it according to the instructions that are given to it.
CPU performance is influenced by several key factors that collectively determine its speed and efficiency. Clock speed, measured in gigahertz (GHz), dictates how quickly the CPU can execute instructions. More cores and threads enable simultaneous processing of multiple tasks, enhancing multitasking capabilities. The CPU's cache memory stores frequently accessed data and instructions for quicker retrieval, reducing latency.
