BSIT 220 - T301 Week 90
Hey Yall!
Welcome to Week 9 of Network Management and Infrastructure. This week we covered Chapters 18 and 19. Chapter 19 covered some network threats or potential attacks against a network. Some of these threats are:
Spoofing - pretending to be someone or something you are not by placing false information into your packets.
Packet/protocol abuse - the misuse of network protocols and packets to achieve unauthorized outcomes
Zero-day attack - an exploit that takes advantage of a previously unknown vulnerability in software or hardware that has not yet been patched. Term Zero-day refers to that the attack happens on or before the first day the vulnerability is discovered or reported.
DoS (Denial of Service) - Cyber attack aimed at making a network service, server, or resource unavailable to its users by overwhelming it with excessive traffic or exploiting vulnerabilities. The goal is to disrupt normal functioning and cause downtime which makes the services and network unstable.
Man-in-the-middle - cyber attack where an attacker intercepts and alters communication between two parties without their knowledge. Attack positions themselves between the communicating parties which allows them to eavesdrop on, or impersonate one of the parties involved.
That is just some of the threats that can occur in a network. Thanks for reading!
