BSIT 200-T301 Week 4 Blog
Welcome again!
This week, I wanted to talk about the video that was presented for the "Required Material". For me, it was a struggle watching this, I'd say "dated" video of information in the BIOS and more. In the first part about the BIOS, known as the Basic Input/Output System, some of the information was old it took me back to when I was younger and learning about PCs. The gentleman talked about button pressing to enter the BIOS. It hurt my brain listening to him say that when he misses the key to press, he "plays the keyboard" to get into it.
Another thing he spoke about was the boot password, Administrator Password, Supervisor Password, or a multitude of other names. There is a way to clear the password in the event that it is lost. I have also done this in my time as a technician. One way to do this is to remove the CMOS (Complementary Metal-oxide-semiconductor) battery, which will reset your BIOS back to default. Another way to do this is by locating your password reset jumper also noted as PSWD on your motherboard removing the jumper from the pins and powering the computer back on. Once you get to the desktop screen, you can shut down your computer and reinstall the jumper.
He also talked about the boot order. When working on normal computers, you want your main hard drive to be the 1st option so that your computer starts with that. Other times, you will change it to other boot options that you want it to. Take for instance my job at Michelin. We image computers through SCCM or System Center Configuration Manager. We access this through the network by changing the boot order to have the network boot first so that we can pxy boot into the server where the image is located.
Well, that's all I got for now. Have a great day!
